More than a stay

Our team

Our team is at the heart and forefront of everything we do. They bring Zanbluu to life with their warmth, local knowledge and dedication. Formed by passionate individuals from around the island, they go above and beyond to make each stay truly special. Their personal touch turns a visit into a unique memory.

Sustainability

At Zanbluu, in Kiwengwa, we are deeply committed to sustainability and protecting the island we call home. This commitment guides our daily practices—from recycling and composting to reducing plastic use and caring for Zanzibar’s delicate natural balance.

Recycling

All waste is carefully sorted in rooms, kitchens and shared spaces to ensure that as much as possible is composted, reused or recycled.

Composting

All organic waste is composted and transformed into rich soil for our gardens—a natural cycle that gives back to the island.

Reusable

Each room is equipped with glass water bottles that guests can refill at the reception with filtered water. Reducing single-use plastics is one of the many ways we work to protect our surroundings.

Environment

From the materials we choose to the way we care for the land around us, every detail reflects our deeper commitment to sustainability.

Our way of caring

We believe travel is at its best when it’s intentional and respectful. Rooted here in Zanzibar, we feel responsible not only for creating memorable stays, but also for safeguarding what makes this island so special. Some activities offered on the island may not fully align with our values, but we believe that small, mindful choices by each traveler can make a big difference. To help you enjoy Zanzibar more consciously, here are a few simple tips.

Protect marine life

Removing starfish or other species from the sea, even briefly, can cause serious harm. We kindly ask you to observe marine life in its natural environment without touching or disturbing them.

Respect local culture

Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim island with many strong traditions. The local government encourages visitors to dress modesty in public spaces — especially in local villages, towns, or when visiting religious sites.

Supporting children responsibly

Offering sweets or gifts on the street may seem kind, but it can create unintended harm. We work with local organisations that provide long-term support including our nearest orphanage & charities supporting children into and through school. If you wish to contribute, we’ll be happy to connect you with them.

The idea it’s to invite you to connect with the island in a deeper, more thoughtful way. If you have any questions, our team at the hotel reception or management will be happy to assist you.
